The PM6006 adds digital audio decoding, via the reference class CS4398 24 bit/192 kHz high current D/A converter, along with exclusive HDAM (Hyper Dynamic Amplifier Module) technology, which uses precision discrete components instead of conventional op-amp integrated circuits. The high current power supply features a high capacity shielded toroidal power transformer that provides high instantaneous burst current, essential when driving lower impedance speaker loads. The power supply also features large high current storage capacitors, and high current high speed Shottky Barrier Diodes for the cleanest power characteristics. The digital audio circuitry is housed in its own shielded subsection to eliminate interference with the analog audio circuit blocks. Multiple analog inputs include a dedicated phono input for MM turntables, and there are optical and coaxial digital audio inputs. The PM6006 is rated at 45 watts per channel (8 ohms) and 60 watts per channel (4 ohms).
The CD6006 is designed to deliver the utmost musical fidelity, and features a range of reference class technologies including exclusive HDAM (Hyper Dynamic Amplifier Module) discrete circuit topology along with the high resolution CS4398 D/A conversion system, which delivers up to 192 kHz/24 bit resolution. The center mount CD drive mechanism is securely fastened to the chassis to minimize vibrations, and the digital audio circuit block is housed in its own shielded subsection. The player is compatible with music CDs, CD-R and CD-RW discs, and can play a wide range of file types, including WAV, AAC, WMA and MP3 files. A convenient USB port on the front panel works with many USB memory devices, and is iPod and iPhone compatible so you can enjoy your favorite iTunes tracks with thrilling sound quality.
Bowers & Wilkins 685
The Decoupled Double Dome tweeter found in the 685 S2 is technology taken straight from the award-winning Bower & Wilkins CM10 speaker. A dual-layer design combines a thin aluminium dome for lightness and a thicker aluminium ring for rigidity – the result is absolutely stunning, with far greater clarity in the audible spectrum.
The tweeter is also decoupled from the main cabinet, kept physically separate in its own cavity with a ring of gel cushioning it from vibrations. This improves imaging and dispersion for a more natural, spacious treble.
As well as a decoupled, double dome aluminium tweeter, the two-way 685 S2 features a full-range 6.5-inch driver constructed from woven Kevlar and using Anti-Resonance Plug dustcaps, as seen in high-end Bowers & Wilkins speakers. The result is stunning audio quality from a highly versatile smaller speaker.
